Nowadays more than ever, environmental safety and population health increasingly depend on the quality of both technical equipment / instrumentation engineering and training of specialists who design and service such facilities and equipment.
My article is an introduction to the heading ‘Advances in Industrial Sciences’ of this thematic issue of the electronic Almanac, and this is a short analytical commentary on Yuriy Katser's paper published under this heading.
I believe that Yuriy Katser's article can be considered an example of combining the creative approach and the sound carrying out of both the experimental and analytical parts of study. The fact that this paper was the only one in the heading (other ones were rejected by the editorial border and reviewers because of low scientific level) reflects the deplorable state of teaching engineering, natural and exact sciences in the modern higher school in Russia.
At the same time, I conclude that the very appearance of such works as Yuriy Katser’s article, as well as its publication in this thematic issue, will help to maintain interest in the future specialists in the ‘technogenic’ (industrial) environment, the successful functioning of which ensures the needs of the modern society, including its critical need for security in the broadest sense.
